Aunt Suezanne's Chocolate Cake
Delicious and fattening Fisher Chocolate Cake!
Ingredients
- Cake
- 1/2 c. Cocoa
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/3 c. buttermilk or sour cream
- Frosting:
- 1/2 c. light flavor cocoa
- 1/2 c. medium flavor cocoa
- 3/4 c. dark flavor cocoa
- 2 2/3 c confectioners sugar
- 6 tlbsp butter
- 4-5 tbsp milk or water
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
Stir together the cocoa and boiling water in a small bowl until smooth. set aside. Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla in a large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. add with the buttermilk or sour cream to creamed mixture. Blend in cocoa mixture.
Pour into 3 greased and floured 8" or two 9" cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes for 8" or 35-40 for the 9" pans. Cool and Frost!
In a small bowl, combine the cocoa with the confectioners sugar. Cream the butter and 1/2 c. cocoa mixture in a small mixer. Add remaining cocoa mixture and then add in the water and vanilla. Beat to a spreading consistency. for a glossier texture, add 1 tbsp light corn syrup.
